Giving back – donations to Code Club and CodeYourFuture

Posted on

From our very first conference in 2014 we have been keen to build and invest in a strong community around Continuous Delivery. We’re therefore delighted in 2017 to be able to support two wonderful organisations that help to promote learning and inclusion in software development: Code Club and CodeYourFuture. The donations of £450 to each organisation are made possible with the generous support of our sponsors and through ticket sales. So a big thanks to: GoCD, JFrog, Skyscanner, Armakuni, Dyson, Equal Experts, Just Eat, Infinity Works, Moo, Always Agile Consulting, Dockbit, The Scale Factory, and Skelton Thatcher Consulting.

We love the work that Code Club does with young people, and we are very happy to be able to support their activities.

CodeYourFuture

logo_rectangleCodeYourFuture is the UK’s first, and only, coding school exclusively set up to teach refugees to code. Half of the students are Syrians, with others from Uganda, Ethiopia, Afghanistan and one who is officially recognised as stateless by the UK government. None of them are able to return home to their former lives so they’re learning coding as a route to finding a stable job in the UK. In just six months, each student will have acquired enough coding knowledge to hopefully find themselves an entry level job as a web developer.

We’re pleased to be able to support the expansion of the CodeYourFuture programme into Glasgow and Manchester from its beginnings in London. By supporting CodeYourFuture, we are explicitly acknowledging the value of diverse backgrounds and cultures in modern software engineering.
